Excel Magic Trick #74: Custom Number Formatting

Microsoft Excel is one of the most important applications that you can always learn in their working lives, the reason I say that is that over 90% of enterprises use Microsoft Excel on a daily basis not to know Microsoft Excel can actually make it outside. One of the biggest challenges we have in work with Microsoft Excel is the address of the cell. The use of standard column names from A to Z then AA to IV is very ingenious, but what really causes many problems for people who use large spreadsheet. Imagine trying to remember what he does every cell in a spreadsheet that has over 20,000 cells.

Well, if you think thata difficult images is only one out there … must be an easier way.

Of course there are and which involves the appointment of its cells in a worksheet. So what names imply, essentially, and the appointment of a cell is administering a cell address, as the name AA543 normal as the interest rate or total amount. The good thing about giving a name of cells is that you can actually make reference the name in formulas instead of the address of the cell. Naming a cell that makes life much easier in Microsoft Excel, simply because as human beings we can relate to more descriptive names such as interest rate or total quantity of what we can with a standard cell however there are some very strict rules to be followed.

Names Rule # 1 – should not exceed 255 characters

The first rule you must follow is that when you are names of a cell, the cell name should not exceed 255 characters. Another aspect of this must also take into account is that if the name exceeds 253 characters then the name does not appear in the name box of formula bar. In fact, if you follow this rule, in that their names should not exceed 30 characters, usually try limit including 10 and 20 characters, because more than that and formulas and functions can be very difficult to find fault.

Rule # 2 – Names Cell sites are not allowed to contain

Cell Names in Microsoft Excel must not have spaces. There are two ways that are considered acceptable in the Overcoming this problem. One way is to distinguish the words in a unique name by placing the letter in the beginning of each word in capitals and —

TrialBalance

An alternative way to appoint a cell is to use the underscore as —

Trial_Balance

Either technique is quite acceptable. You can find although it emphasizes that the use of names have been used where the boundaries can be difficult to distinguish the outline of a border. In this particular case would better to use the naming standard first.

Rule # 3 – Microsoft Excel does not distinguish between uppercase and lowercase One

Microsoft Excel Cell names are not case sensitive which means that a capital C is exactly the same as a small c and this is one of the reasons for using the first naming standard Rule # 2.

Rule # 4 – Cell names must be unique and must not resemble a number, cell reserve addresses or Word

Microsoft Excel is very strict that you can take the following into cell names —

– There are no spaces in the names of Cell
– There is no mathematical symbols like + – * / &
– Names can not look like a number, cell address or reserved word
A keyword is a text that is used for functions and formulas. For example, you can not call a cellphone in the amount of name as already used in the function SUM.

Rule # 5 – Cell names can contain only the following characters

When cells of names only You can use the following characters —

– Characters of letters from A to Z

– Number Characters 0 to 9

– Characters do not even like. _?

Rule # 6 – A cell name must begin with a Letter backslash () or an underscore (_)

While you can use the uniform numbers and characters as a decimal and question mark all cell names must begin with a Letter Backslash underscore () or (_)

So how do we give a cell in a name?

The easiest way to name a cell is to first select the cell, then once you select the cell, simply click the Name box on the formula bar, type the name you want and press Enter. What you'll notice is that every time you click the cell with the cell name, Microsoft Excel replace the cell address for the name he gave his cell.

Names cells is a useful skill to learn especially when it is starting to create complex spreadsheets and that is very easy to forget that the direction Cell contains every piece of data. Names of the cells means that it will be easier for you to write formulas that refer to cells with the right information.
